Lacrosse Lady Bucs close regular season with wins over Fairmont Senior and Martinsburg; earn first-round bye in playoffs

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur lacrosse Lady Bucs couldn’t have ended their regular season any better than what they did last week with a pair of home wins.

Last Tuesday they edged rival Fairmont Senior by a 6-5 score and followed that up a day later with a convincing 17-3 victory over Martinsburg.

Against Fairmont Senior, Mallory Moss tallied five goals while Harley Walton scored the other one.

Brianna Howes led the team with 10 ground balls while Moss had seven.

B-U held an 18-12 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Josie Rosencrance made seven saves.

Moss capped off her final regular season game as a senior in strong fashion against Martinsburg with nine goals while Howes and Harley Walton had three each and Ava Lynch tallied one.

B-U had a 10-3 lead at the break and continued to dominate the second half by shutting out the Bulldogs.

Moss had a team-high 14 ground balls.

B-U owned a 24-14 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Rosencrance made 11 stops in the win.

Buckhannon-Upshur ended their regular season with an 8-4 mark and finished first in Division 1 winning a tiebreaker with University and George Washington with a 5-1 ledger.

They received a first-round bye in the playoffs and will await the winner of the Fairmont Senior-Morgantown clash.
