Lacrosse Bucs lose regular-season finale, host Mountain State Thursday in playoffs

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION – Nathen Smith tallied four goals but it wasn’t enough to lead his Buckhannon-Upshur lacrosse Bucs to a victory in a 7-5 setback against Jefferson County Saturday in their regular-season finale.

The Bucs trailed 1-0 after one quarter and 3-2 at the break.

They were down 6-4 after three quarters and lost by two as both teams scored a goal in the fourth quarter.

Ranger Burgess had the other goal for the Bucs.

Tucker Hatfield collected two assists while Smith, Remmy Bonnet and Kevin Bohnsack each had one.

Smith led the team in ground balls with 19 while Kaleb Roby had 13.

Bonnet made 13 saves while counterpart Luke Viands made six stops.

The loss dropped the Bucs 5-4.

They will begin their postseason run Thursday hosting Mountain State (3-5) at 7 p.m.
