JV Lady Bucs tame Bearcats in 36-17 win

GRAFTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs used a dominant first quarter to earn a 36-17 road victory over the Grafton Bearcats Thursday evening.

The JV Lady Bucs raced out to a 14-3 lead after one quarter of action with Brooklyn Smith scoring five points, Regina Petrokovich three and NinaMae Coberly, Rosie Shackleford and Casadie Lahman two each.

The junior varsity Lady Bucs took the second quarter by a 7-6 margin with Lahman hitting a three-pointer and Olivia Shipley and Petrokovich each putting in a basket.

That put B-U up by a 21-9 score heading into the half.

B-U kept the offense going in the third quarter winning it by a 13-4 count with Petrokovich drilling two treys, Lahman nailing a three-pointer and Shackleford and NinaMae Coberly each scoring a basket.

That left them with a 34-13 advantage going into the final stanza.

In a low-scoring fourth quarter, the Lady Bucs managed just one basket by Regan McVay losing the final eight minutes by a 4-2 score.

Amidy Cook and Emma Johnson each had five points to lead Grafton.

Petrokovich led B-U with 11 points while Lahman had eight points.

The JV Lady Bucs improved to 5-10 on the year. They will wrap up their season Monday hosting Morgantown at 5:45 p.m.
