Johnston scores 17 as JV Bucs fall in finale to Black Eagles, 69-47

TENNERTON – Bryson Johnston had a game-high 17 points for the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers in their season finale against the South Charleston Black Eagles Wednesday evening at the high school.

Despite the solid game from Johnston, the JV Bucs still lost a 69-47 decision.

The JV Bucs trailed by just one after one quarter of action, at 16-15.

Johnston had six points, Ryan Snyder five and Carter Zuliani four points for the JV Bucs in the opening quarter.

The JV Bucs dropped the second quarter by a 14-9 count with Johnston launching a three, Nathaniel Ringer and Jevon Westfall each scoring two points, and Luke Yardley and Ryan Snyder one each.

B-U trailed at the break by a 30-24 score.

The game got away from the JV Bucs in the third quarter as they lost it by a 22-13 margin. Kelley had six points, Westfall three, and Ringer and Johnston two each for the JV Bucs.

Buckhannon-Upshur trailed heading into the last stanza by a 52-37 score.

The JV Bucs lost the final quarter by a 17-10 margin. Johnston had six points while Westfall and Kelley had two each in that last quarter.

Jamari Tubbs had 17 points to lead South Charleston.

The JV Bucs ended their year with an 8-13 mark.
