James Edward ‘Ed’ Zickefoose

James Edward Zickefoose, known as Ed to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Ohio, at the age of 87.

Born on January 12, 1938 in Alton, West Virginia, Ed was the son of the late Hartzel and Velma Zickefoose (nee Bosley). His early years in the rolling hills of West Virginia instilled in him a lifelong love for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life.

Ed’s journey led him to the love of his life, Betty Gayle, to whom he was a devoted husband for 66 years. Together, they built a family founded on love, laughter, and shared adventures.

He was a loving father to his daughters, Kim Grigsby (Kurt) of Hinckley, Ohio and Pam Gering (Paul) of Strongsville, Ohio. His role as a brother was cherished by Jewel Christopher and remembered fondly by his late siblings Bud Zickefoose, Clyde Zickefoose, and Betty June Richards.

Ed’s legacy continued to grow with his adored grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Shane), Kyle (Amanda), and Kelsy (Justin), and he was overjoyed to become a great-grandfather to Jonah, Jackson, and Landon. His pride in his family was evident to all who knew him, and he took great joy in ensuring that each family member was well-acquainted with the value of a reliable Ford vehicle.

For 36 years, Ed dedicated his professional life to the Ford Motor Company, where his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were well-regarded by his colleagues. His association with Ford was more than a career; it was a testament to his belief in hard work and quality American craftsmanship.

An avid fan of Cleveland sports, Ed never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Cleveland Guardians and Browns, embodying the spirit of loyalty and passion. His interests were as diverse as his character; he relished the thrill of hunting, the tranquility of fishing in the Buckhannon River, and the strategy of a good Monopoly game as well as following the stock market. Ed’s love for traveling and camping with his family created a tapestry of memories that will be cherished for generations.

Above all, Ed was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. His laughter was infectious, his advice was sought after, and his presence was a comfort. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren, and his legacy of love, integrity, and kindness will live on through them. As we bid farewell to James Edward Zickefoose, we celebrate a life well-lived, a family well-loved, and a man who was truly the heart of his home. His memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew him best and his stories will be told with warmth and affection for years to come.

Friends will be received Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 4PM – 7PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, 11AM at the funeral home with Pastor Holly Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Camp Church Cemetery in French Creek, WV.

Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
