Indoor track and field Bobcats set new school mark at Youngstown

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams saw one school record, one event win, one tie for first, eight total top-four finishes, and 11 personal records at the YSU College Mid Major Invitational. The throwers and pole vaulters competed at the Muskingum Meet in Muskingum, Ohio.

How The Men Finished
A team of Cayden Robinson, Jose Filion, Cole Bracken, and Anthony Sanders broke the school record in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:25.92.

Tanner Faulkiner finished fourth in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line at 6.91. Freshman Tommy Hart ran a personal-best 7.23 in the event.

Faulkiner also had a top-25 finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.64. Sterlin Thropp finished at 23.18 in the event. Hart ran a 23.31, giving himself another PR.

Thropp finished in the Top-20 in the 400-meter dash, running 51.49. Filion had another solid run, crossing the line at 53.13.

Cayden Robinson finished 23rd in the 800-meter dash at 1:58.33. Cole Bracken finished at 2:02.71.

In the 1-mile run, Cayden Robinson finished seventh and had a new PR with a time of 4:18.51, only five seconds shy of first place.

Sanders came in 16th in the 3000-meter run, crossing at 8:50.45. Evan Pyles ran a personal-best in the event, finishing at 8:53.17.

Aaron Kupfner finished ninth and set a new PR in the 60-meter hurdles, running 8.59.

How The Women Finished
Ny’Tierra Hobbs had two top-three finishes. In the 60-meter dash, she ran a 7.73, good for a new PR and 3rd place. In the 200-meter dash, she finished third with a time of 25.55. Shannon Farrow’s 27.43 in the 200 was also a new personal-best.

Dakota Johnson placed 14th in the 800-meter dash, setting a new PR with a time of 2:25.04. Kristina Lesho finished at 2:39.98.

Sophomore Leigha Hall finished third in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line at 18:47.36. Alyssa Kelleher placed 22nd with a time of 21:00.69.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Aubrey Wiethe finished at 9.73.

Samantha Cash finished the pentathlon with a total score of 3237, which is only 10 points away form the NCAA provisional mark.

Other Notable Performances
Roman Moore threw a personal-best in the shot put (13.13m) and in the weight throw (13.08m)
Elizabeth Kittle threw 9.98m in the weight throw, setting a new PR

Wesleyan will be at the Second Jud Logan Light Giver Open next Friday and Saturday on the campus of Ashland University.
