Ida Ruth McDaniels

Ida Ruth McDaniels, 74, of Selbyville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 24, 2022, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Richwood, WV on October 1, 1947, a daughter of the late Russel “Bud” and Inez Vaughn Cogar.  Ruth married the love of her life, Johnie Paul McDaniels and they were blessed with over 54 years of marriage.  In addition to her husband, she is also survived by four daughters:  Sherry and husband Melvin McIe of Selbyville, Sheila McDaniels of Selbyville, Terry and husband Rob Fraser of St. Marys, WV, and Tammy and husband Steve Curtis of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren:  Ashley and husband Raymond Pennington, Amanda and husband Anthony Holly, Joseph Cobb, Kaitlyn and husband Dylan McClure, Karla Curtis, Kessa Curtis, and Keaton Fraser; six great-grandchildren:  Waylon Cobb, Claire McClure, Karter Pennington, Chase Pennington, Alayna Holly, and Alaura Holly; two sisters:  Rosie Bancroft of Webster Springs and Retha Giles of Cowen; one brother Lonnie Cogar and wife Sheila of Webster Springs; and a special niece Debbie and husband Roy Young of Grafton.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one grandson Melvin Paul McIe; three siblings:  Katie Cogar, Russie (Larry) Unger, and Dale (Bill) Triplett; and in-laws Audley Oval and Bertha McDaniels.

Ruth was a member of the Beech Mountain Sportsmen’s Club, the old Newlon United Methodist Church, and a life member of the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Department.  She was well-known in the local community for her homemade biscuits and hot dog sauce.  Ruth has a passion for singing the old gospel hymns, especially at church sings with good friends Teresa Tenney and Bessie McDaniels.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to WV Hospice for the loving care shown to her and the family.  From the bottom of our hearts, Ruth’s daughters Sherry, Terry, and Tammy extend much appreciation to WV Central Aging for blessing our beloved mama with the most precious, gentle caregiver God ever created, our sister Sheila Ann McDaniels.  We will be forever grateful for you all.  May God be in the center of your lives.

The family will receive friends at the Pleasant Dale Community Church on Monday, February 28, 2022, from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM—the funeral hour, with the Rev. Wease Day, Pastor Terry Gower, and Rob Fraser officiating.  Interment will follow in the Pleasant Dale Cemetery.

Online condolences may be extended to the McDaniels family at www.heavnerandcutright.com. The McDaniels family entrusted the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel with the arrangements.
