Samuel Lee Hamner, infant son of Derreck and Megan Arnold Hamner of Buckhannon, WV, was born and passed away on June 20, 2026, at WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital general surgeon Dr. Susan Long has been named WVSOM’s 2026 Outstanding Preceptor Award recipient for the Central East Region.

Food truck vendors may soon be able to rent space in the Madison Street parking lot in Buckhannon. Public Works Director Ethan Crosten said the site’s existing utility hookups could make it an easy way to bring vendors into the city.

Fairmont State University Chief of Staff Dr. Brian Selmeski has been selected for the national Executive Leadership Academy, a competitive program preparing 36 senior leaders for presidential roles.

WVDNR is taking applications for a controlled waterfowl hunt Oct. 3-11 at McClintic WMA near Point Pleasant, with entries due by 11:59 p.m. Aug. 14.

Buckhannon’s revived Youth Police Academy is full, with 24 kids ages 11–16 signed up for the hands-on July 13–17 program featuring K9 demos and mock crime scenes. The BPD is also calling for volunteers to join VIPS to assist the department in various ways.
