Hilda Mae Dawson

Hilda Mae Dawson, age 82, of Buckhannon passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born on December 2, 1941, in Pickens, WV, a daughter of the late Roy S. and Maude E. Howes Hardman. On July 6, 1957, she was united in marriage to Blonda Dawson, who preceded her in death on April 12, 2024, after 66 years of loving marriage.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one infant daughter Cheryl Dawson; two grandchildren: Andrew Roth and Brandon Weese; seven brothers: John, Don, Forrest Gail, Charles and James, Dewey and Sherman Hardman; one step-sister Nora Lee Fultz; and one step-brother Herman Howell. She is survived by three children: Steven Dawson and wife Angela of Moorefield, Bruce Dawson and wife Kathy of Buckhannon, and Marcella and husband Neil Roth of Buckhannon; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother Edward Hardman of Buckhannon; and her beloved dog Angel.

Hilda was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church. She had a great love for her family, her dogs, and music. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, she recorded several country music records in Nashville and performed at the Mountain State Forest Festival, the WV Strawberry Festival, as well as several radio and television stations in central WV.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital for the excellent care they afforded Hilda.

The body will be cremated and a celebration of Hilda’s life will be held at a later date.
