Hawkins wins second annual Jim Stout Memorial race at Elkins Raceway

KERENS – The tension in the air could be cut with a knife Saturday evening at Elkins Raceway. All eyes were on the Super Late Model class during the second annual Jim Stout Memorial race at Elkins Raceway. With a $5,037 payout at stake, drivers put the pedal to the metal for the checkered flag and large pay day.

After 50 feature laps, a whopping $5,037 was awarded to the fastest Super Late Model driver, Jacob Hawkins. The second place Super Late Model driver, Zach Dohm was awarded $3,037 while the third place winner Tyler Carpenter was awarded $2,037.

The action did not stop with the Super Late Model class feature race. Drivers of the Younger Mini Wedges, Older Mini Wedges, FASTRAK Crate Late Models, Street Stocks, UMP Modifieds, and Edge Hot Mods also put on a show for a packed house of the general admission grandstands.

As the season is speeding by, races continue to heat up and the competition continues to be fierce. As the green flag fell on July 30, the upcoming checkered flag was all that mattered then.

Saturday’s feature race winners are as follows:

  • Younger Mini Wedges – Adley Green
  • Older Mini Wedges – Gunner Binns
  • Super Late Model Dash – Cody Rogers
  • Super Late Model – Jacob Hawkins
  • Crates – Brent Trimble
  • Modifieds – Mitch Thomas
  • Street Stock – Chris Smith
  • Hot Mods – Michael Simpson

Mark your calendars for next Saturday, August 6 for more regular racing and the second Autograph & Picture Night of the season. The original date for the second Autograph & Picture Night of the season was scheduled for Saturday, July 23 however it was canceled due to rainy conditions at the track. During regular intermission on Saturday, racing fans can spill onto the front stretch of track for a meet and greet with their favorite drivers. Fans are encouraged to take photos, collect autographs from drivers, and look inside each race car to experience life on the dirt track. Drivers may have autographed images and other goodies for fans to take home with them.
