Gloria Jean (Powers) Husk

Gloria Jean (Powers) Husk, of Carrabelle, FL, was born in Clarksburg, WV on October 10, 1944, and passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at age 80. She had suffered a brief illness and was surrounded by her loving neighbors, who she considered not only friends but family. Her fur baby, Buddy, was also with her.

She was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents; her birth mother, Francis J. (Harris) Hood; her father, Benton G. Powers; and her husband, Danny Lee Husk, Sr., whom she married on June 29, 1963.

She is survived by Oneita M. Powers, her stepmother and “Mama,” who, together with her father, raised her; siblings Pam Moore, Debbie Quick, Ben Powers, and Tom Powers, all of WV, and Connie Nelson of FL; children Danny Husk, Jr., Richard Husk, Johnny Husk, and Kathrina Toole, all of SC; several grandchildren and great‑grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her lifelong childhood friend, Paul Dalton of WV.

Gloria attended Upshur County schools and Heaston United Methodist Church in Hodgesville before moving to Parkersburg with her husband in 1963. She had a passion for sailing and, in her earlier years, loved to get out on her boat and fish. She also loved to write, publishing “Love Always Glory’s Way” in 2002. Gloria was a true genealogist and a longtime member and supporter of the Hacker’s Creek Library. Members are like family to HCPD, and she will be missed by the organization.

To those who knew her, Gloria will be remembered as sweet and caring, but also as having a stubborn streak a mile long. Short in stature but full of “spunk” when need be, she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

As per Gloria’s wishes, there will not be any services. Her body will be cremated, and her ashes, along with her late husband’s, will be scattered on Dog Island, close to the Lanark Beach area where they called home since April 1994.
