Glenville State mourns loss of campus police officer

A Note to the Pioneer Community:

Gary Smarr, Glenville State College’s Senior Campus Police Officer, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 10 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Officer Smarr first came to Glenville State College in 2000 when he briefly served as a Residence Hall Monitor before taking a position with Public Safety, where he has been employed since 2002. Gary’s wife Lisa is the Assistant Food Service Director at GSC.

A Celebration of Life ceremony in Gary’s honor will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc. (located at 2 Vanhorn Drive in Glenville, WV) on Sunday, December 16 at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dwight Goff officiating. Friends will be received from Noon-3: p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the Mortuary in Glenville.

Following the services, a dinner will be held at the Camden Flats Baptist Church in Glenville. Everyone is encouraged to attend and share in food and fellowship.
