Wesleyan teammates celebrate Josh Tenney's first of two goals Thursday against Urbana.

Former Buckhannon-Upshur High School soccer star Josh Tenney scored twice on Thursday as West Virginia Wesleyan College defeated Urbana 3-2 in their Mountain East Conference opener.

All five goals came in the second half of play, as Tenney twice put the Bobcats ahead. Sinasi Emre Deniz scored Wesleyan’s third goal, ensuring a win even though the Blue Knights pulled within a point in the final minute of play.

The victory lifts coach Gavin Donaldson’s Bobcat squad to 2-1 on the 2019 season. They’ll head on the road next week for tough games at Wheeling and Charleston before returning to host Concord on Sept. 25.
