The Buckhannon-Upshur High School boy’s soccer team downed previously undefeated Robert C. Byrd 3-1 in Tennerton on Tuesday night.

“The first part of our game plan was to shut down [Khori] Miles,” B-U head coach Mike Donato said after the game. “We didn’t keep an active mark on him, but were aware of where he was, making sure that someone stepped to him on passes and not allowing him to turn in space.

“For the most part our back line did a great job of that. Miles managed to turn into one and get a goal, but I commend our team for staying in it and getting back in the game.”

B-U got on the board first with a Dawson Carpenter strike in the 31st minute. Miles evened things up 30 minutes later.

But as the clock dipped toward 10 minutes remaining, Ryan Hurst and Bryer Ketterman both scored within a minute for B-U to put the game at its final 3-1 margin.

“I was really impressed with the team as a whole as they were able to spot formations and make adjustments on the pitch, and at this point in the season that’s critical for them to be able to do that,” Donato said. “We played a tough, physical game and created great chances on goal. Back-to-front a great quality win.”
