BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – There were wagging tails and smiling faces seen at the Southern States Pet Adoption Day.

“Any time we can save a life of a shelter animal is a good day,” said Brian Landis, Assistant Manager at the Southern States Buckhannon Co-op.

The lives of several loving animals were changed forever thanks to the efforts of Southern States and the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility. Homes were found for three dogs and five cats at the event.

“Many people came to this event already knowing exactly what pet they wanted to adopt,” said Jan Cochran, Facility Manager at the Lewis Upshur Animal Control Facility.

Those four-legged friends can now make happy memories with their new families. The families who adopted an animal from the event were given a bag of Southern States brand pet food and treats for the new, furry addition to their family.

This event was one of two adoption events held each year by the partnership. The next adoption event will take place October 23 at Southern States, where children and pets are invited to dress in costume to participate in a costume contest. Dogs and cats will be available for adoption. Help those pets find their FURever homes too!

“Before buying a puppy or kitten from a breeder, come check out what we have in the shelter,” Cochran said. “If someone is looking for a nice, good pet to adopt, we have plenty of them at the shelter.”

Learn how to adopt a pet by visiting the Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility at 318 Mud Lick Road in Buckhannon or call 304-472-3865. Check out animals available for adoption online.
