Friends, Family, and Fellowship Highlight AB’s Homecoming Celebration

AB to Celebrate Homecoming October 9-13

PHILIPPI, W.Va.—October 8,2019—Alderson Broaddus University will host a variety of events for the public as part of their Homecoming celebration October 9-13.

To kick-off Homecoming week, the Dr. Robert V. Digman Lecture Series will be held Wednesday-Friday, October 9-11, from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. in Crim Dining Hall in the AB Campus Center.

Wednesday, October 9, Adam Cheeseman, a 2007 AB graduate and this year’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award winner, will begin the annual lecture series. Adam Cheeseman received his Bachelor of Arts from Alderson Broaddus in secondary education with a specialization in social studies in 2007. Cheeseman holds a Master of Arts in biblical studies from Liberty University and a Superintendent’s Certificate from Salem International University. He has been Superintendent of Doddridge County Schools (WV) since 2016.

On Thursday, October 10, Associate Professor of English Dr. Charlie Starr will share his C.S. Lewis expertise. Starr teaches, writes, and lectures on Classic and American literature, film, theology, and on the works of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. He has published three never-before-seen C. S. Lewis manuscripts and will soon be releasing an additional 24 new Lewis documents, including a lost sequel to The Screwtape Letters.

The lecture series will conclude on Friday, October 11, with Dr. Charles Smith, a 1969 Alderson Broaddus graduate. Smith received his Bachelor of Science in both mathematics and chemistry at AB. Smith obtained his master’s degree from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He is a senior manager of pharmacokinetics for Pharmaceutical Product Development, LLC in Richmond, VA.

The public is also invited to the women’s volleyball game on Friday, October 11, at 7:00 p.m. against Ohio Dominican University. Saturday, October 12, men’s football will battle Lake Erie College at 12 noon.

Wilcox Chapel will be full of music on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. as the School of Music hosts its annual homecoming concert.

On Sunday morning, the annual Homecoming Worship Service led by Rev. Patricia Lawrence, a 1969 AB graduate, will take place at Philippi Baptist Church located at 69 Church Street in downtown Philippi. Worship begins at 10:30 a.m., and all are welcome to attend.
