The Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur unveiled a new baler at the city transfer station during a ribbon cutting Tuesday. The recycling effort aims to keep soft plastics out of landfills and earn inclusive playground equipment in return.

West Virginia’s Office of Nutrition Services has launched a WIC data dashboard with program participation, benefit redemption and breastfeeding information, plus a map of vendors, farmers markets and clinics.

Upshur Parish House’s Hunger Walk returns Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Buckhannon, expanding into a free community open house with food, family activities and team competitions. Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food for the pantry.

The Fairmont State Foundation raised $4.6 million in fiscal 2026, surpassing its goal and increasing fundraising 84% year over year. It also awarded $1.3 million in scholarships and raised a record $880,152 through its Day of Giving.

WVU’s new STEAM Innovation Alliance will connect education, entrepreneurship and real-world problem-solving across West Virginia. The $2.6 million initiative aims to serve 300 educators and 15,000 middle and high school students over three years.

Engineers linked Reger Avenue’s recurring flooding to an altered road grade, buried curbs, aging pipes and drainage gaps. They recommend mapping and inspecting the system before adding inlets or milling and regrading the street.
