Fred Eugene Woody, age 92, of Buckhannon, died Monday, September 25, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
He was born at Newlon, WV on February 28, 1931, a son of the late Davy L. and Lourene Bennett Woody. On May 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Wilma Jean Woody who preceded him in death on November 11, 2018. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one brother Hartsel Woody and one sister Betty Marti.
He is survived by three sons: Ronnie Woody and wife Shirley of French Creek, Kenneth Woody and wife Marie of Buckhannon, and Gary Woody and wife Suzanne of Buckhannon; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister Hazel and husband Dennis Helmick of Beckley; one brother Roger Woody and wife Judy of French Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was a member of the Light Chapel Church and the NRA and was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5-8:00 PM. A funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the funeral chapel with Pastor Brandon Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Dale Cemetery.
