Fred Eberle cosmetology graduates return to school to give manicure demonstration and share their stories as salon owners

BUCKHANNON – Former Fred W. Eberle Technical Center students offered their industry expertise to current cosmetology students during a live manicure demonstration on Thursday.

Emma Louk and Emily Hurst, both 2021 graduates of FETC, made an appearance at their old stomping grounds in The Art of Beauty Salon on the campus of Fred Eberle to perform a manicure application.

This hands-on demonstration provided cosmetology students the opportunity to experience the process of a manicure, from nail prep to the final touches, such as nail art.

Words of wisdom, tips, tricks and stories from the good ‘ole days of class time with instructor Crystal Moss were shared throughout the demonstration. Moss received a fresh set of acrylic nails as part of the experience.

During each step of the process, Louk expressed personal reviews on products, tools and manicure practices.

After working in the industry and with continued correspondence with their instructors at FETC, Louk and Hurst became part-owners of The Beauty Studio in Belington.

“I’m very proud of Emma and Emily. I went to their salon and I wasn’t Mrs. Moss there, I was Crystal,” Moss said. “It’s nice to see them come out of their shell, talk to people and learn every day. That is the one thing I tell everyone on their last day — never stop learning. [Fellow instructor, Mary Hull and I] will get you to graduation, but you’ve got to keep going from there.”

Louk invited the students to stop by The Beauty Studio to observe her and Hurst in action. She said it is a “blessing” to have the continued support of both instructors, Mary Hull and Crystal Moss, even after graduation and now as a salon owner.

Moss appreciated the opportunity to share the success of her former students.

“I always wanted to be a hairdresser, a cosmetologist — always,” Moss said. “After a few years, I knew I wanted to teach. Now that is one of my biggest successes, watching the success of [my students].”
