BUCKHANNON — The Fred Brooks Garden Club of Buckhannon is excited to announce the August Yards of the Month winners in five districts and one business category.

The winners are as follows:

District 1 – Peggy Hull and Bill Hite, 38 Arnold Avenue

District 2 – The Aloi Family, 25 College Avenue

District 3 – Ray and Kelly Hepburn, 121 Pocahontas Street

District 4 – Arden and Marilyn Quick, 165 Randolph Street

District 5 – Don and Marty Killmeyer, 18 Gate Street

A man was arrested after he allegedly allowed a 10-year-old to operate the throttle on a motorcycle, leading to a crash that seriously injured the child. Authorities said the man then fled, leaving the injured child at the side of the road.

Buckhannon’s fireworks ordinance: Here’s when city residents can legally paint the skies

Buckhannon’s fireworks rules are narrower than many residents think: because July 4 falls on a Saturday this year, fireworks are only permitted inside city limits from 11 a.m.–11 p.m. on Independence Day itself. The rule helps protect pets, veterans and others sensitive to noise.
