Four deaths, 123 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 123 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Four additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 77-year old female from Logan County, an 84-year old female from Logan County, a 73-year old male from Logan County and a 97-year old male from Mercer County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 14, 2020, there have been 344,530 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 8,274 total cases and 157 deaths,” according to a press release.

The number of active cases in West Virginia hit a new record high on Friday at 1,973.

New cases were reported Friday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Summers, Taylor, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,973 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 6,144 people have recovered and 157 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.33%.
