The Philadelphia 76ers have signed former Wheeling Jesuit basketball player Haywood Highsmith to a two-way contract, general manager Elton Brand said Tuesday.
Highsmith led the Cardinals to their first-ever Mountain East Conference tournament title last spring. He finished his senior season averaging 22 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game, while leading the nation with 29 double-doubles.
The 6-foot-7 Baltimore native participated in the 76ers’ 2018 summer minicamp and then joined the Delaware Blue Coats — Philadelphia’s G League affiliate — where he is averaging 13.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Under the two-way deal, Highsmith will be able to play for both the 76ers and Blue Coats. Two-way players can play at most 45 days for their NBA team before they must be signed to the regular 15-man roster.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
