Football Little Bucs fall to unbeaten Taylor County, 28-6

TENNERTON – For three quarters, the Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School Little Bucs were giving the unbeaten Taylor County Knights all they could handle, but the game got away from the Little Bucs in the fourth quarter and the final result was a 28-6 setback.

“We gave a good effort, but we just made too many mistakes and shot ourselves in the foot,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Dave Chipps after the game.

Taylor County scored on their first drive of the game on a 19-yard run by Jaxson Hall.

The two-point conversion was stopped short but the Knights had a 6-0 lead.

The Little Bucs came right back and scored on their next possession, a 10-play 54-yard march that ended on a 14-yard touchdown run by Dawson Tenney as he evaded two Knight defenders on his way to the end zone.

Tenney came up just short on the two-point conversion run but the game was tied at 6-6, which would be the score at the intermission.

The Knights took the second-half kick-off and went 54 yards in seven plays as Troy Webber broke free over the left side for a 44-yard touchdown scamper with 4:32 showing on the third-quarter clock.

Webber went over left tackle for the two-point conversion as the Knights led 14-6.

The Little Bucs turned the ball over on downs after picking up one first down on their next drive, and on the first play of the fourth quarter, Taylor County’s Kaden Keener found a gap on the right side and raced 46 yards into the end zone.

Webber’s conversion run was good as Taylor County went up 22-6

The Little Bucs moved the ball down to the Knight 23-yard line but the drive fizzled out as Buckhannon-Upshur turned the ball over on downs.

Two players later, Keener found room over the right side again and ran 66 yards for the final Taylor County score of the game.

Tenney broke up the two-point conversion pass as the Knights took their 28-6 lead.

The Little Bucs fumbled a snap away on the second play of their next drive to Taylor County as the Knights drained the clock after that for the win.

The Little Bucs managed just 88 yards of total offense, gaining 55 on the ground and getting 33 on through the air.

Cooper Antolini, in his first game of the season after suffering a hand/wrist injury, led the Little Bucs on the ground with 41 yards on eight carries.

Tenney completed three of his seven passes for 33 yards.

Levi Posey hauled in two passes for 19 yards while Brody Jeran had the other catch for 14 yards.

Taylor County racked up 258 yards of total offense, all on the ground, as Keener ran for 143 yards on 11 carries.

Taylor County improved to 5-0 on the season.

The Little Bucs dropped to 2-3 on the year.

They will be back in action next Thursday hosting Elkins at 6:30 p.m.
