ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers won their third game in a row after completely dominating the Elkins Tigers in a 58-39 win Friday night.

The Bucs put four players in double digits as Jerin Westfall scored 12, Malaki Williams and Jevon Westfall 11 each and Ian Strader 10.

The Bucs had a huge margin in the rebounding battle which they won by a 48-29 count with Carter Zuliani pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Brock Holland hit a three-pointer for Elkins with 1:04 gone in the game to put the Tigers up by a 3-2 score. It was the only time the Bucs trailed in the contest.

They answered that three-pointer with a 13-0 run for a 15-3 advantage and took a 17-7 lead into the second quarter.

Elkins cut the lead down to 20-12 with 5:12 left in the half, but Jevon Westfall nailed a trey, and after a basket from Elkins’ Dylan Hinzman, Zuliani and Ian Strader scored consecutive baskets to close the half treating B-U to a 27-14 lead at the break.

Adam Lambert made two free throws for Elkins, bring the Tigers to within seven at the 4:12 mark of the third quarter, but the Bucs responded with a 9-0 run behind an 18-footer from Strader, a three-pointer from Jerin Westfall, two free throws from Malaki Williams and a lay-up by Jaden Westfall.

That gave the Bucs a 38-22 lead with 2:22 left in the third quarter as they took a 40-23 advantage going into the final eight minutes of action.

A 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter after two baskets from Strader and one from Williams gave the Bucs a 46-23 lead.

The closest Elkins could get the rest of the way was 16 points after a trey from Caleb Ray made it a 55-39 contest with 22 seconds remaining.

Jevon Westfall had an old-fashioned three-point play to wrap up the scoring with 12 seconds left.

Levi Wanless led Elkins with 10 points as the Tigers dropped to 4-13 overall and 1-10 in the Big 10.

The game, which was the final road contest of the season for the Bucs, improved to 13-5 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

The Bucs, who have four home games remaining, will be idle now until Saturday when they host Woodrow Wilson at 1 p.m.
