Falkenstein and Shreve run one and two as Lady Bucs win Polar Bear Invitational

FAIRMONT – Lydia Falkenstein and Samantha Shreve ran first and second to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc cross country team to a victory in the five-team Polar Bear Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Falkenstein clocked a winning time of 18:22.9, while Shreve ran a time of 19:05.5 for her runner-up honors.

Mia Sappy had a top 10 finish placing ninth with a time of 21:09.2 while the other two Lady Bucs who scored were in the top15 as Jessica Williams finished 13th with a time of 21:37.8 and Miah Reger was 14th with a time of 21:48.3.

The five top-15 finishes gave the Lady Bucs the win with 37 points.

East Fairmont was a distant second with 59 points while Fairmont Senior was third with 59 points.

The other Lady Bucs running were Pressley Bowers in 22nd (22:22.1), Brianna Dalton in 24th (22:46.8), Malia Bowers in 32nd (25:06.4) and Harlee Gillum in 43rd (28:03.0).

The race wrapped up the regular season for the Lady Bucs as they will now prepare for the Big 10 Conference and Region I championships.

“Saturday was a good way to close to our regular season,” Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Taylor Stacy said. “We’re feeling good going into the championship season in a couple of weeks. I think the girls are in a great position to run their best race at the end of the season. The girls have really learned how to run together. I’m excited to see how we perform at Big 10 Conference championships.”

The Lady Bucs will be back in action next Thursday in the Big 10 Conference championships at Kingwood.
