Fairmont State Homecoming 2019 Parade to feature new route

With the “Welcome Home” Homecoming 2019 officially kicking off on Thursday, October 24, the Homecoming Parade will be taking a new route this year on Saturday, October 26 beginning at 10 a.m. with lineup at 9 a.m. at Palatine Park.

“Homecoming is all about welcoming home our alumni and we are thrilled to have them home again,” said President Dr. Mirta Martin. “This year we will host the parade on Saturday morning for the second year to allow even more alumni to attend and participate. Our alumni are the heart of our event and this allows even more of our Falcon community to enjoy the parade.”

The parade will begin at Palatine Park and go across Third Street before turning left onto Locust Avenue ending at the intersection at Squibb Wilson Boulevard.

“Each year we work to improve our events and make them better for the entire Falcon community,” Jessica Sharps, Homecoming committee chair and Director of Communications, said. “This year’s route will take advantage of the great space at Palatine Park and the new extension of the connector that now allows easy access to Locust Ave. Once on Locust Ave., we will then bring our celebration right to campus.”

“Many thanks to all of the parties who authorized our new parade route and the office of Residential and Student Life who put in many hours to make this event successful.”

This year Fairmont State’s University Relations and Marketing will be hosting a livestream of parade on the Fairmont State University Facebook page. Sharps said this will allow Falcon family from across the country and across the globe the chance to participate in Homecoming 2019 through the live stream.

“Our alumni and Falcon community are such a strong part of Fairmont State. The goal of Homecoming is to bring our alumni home—where they belong! We hope everyone will join us for our parade on Saturday morning and all of our Homecoming activities,” Dr. Martin said.
