Elizabeth “Bunny” Mow, age 98, passed away on February 7 in Colonie, N.Y. The only child of Harry and Emily Leith-Ross, she was born in Kingston, N.Y., and grew up in Bucks County, Pa.
She graduated from Connecticut College for Women in 1948. She worked for Church World Service in New York City, helping to resettle refugees from World War II, from 1950 to 1953, when she married Joseph Baxter Mow and moved to Chicago, so her husband could pursue his graduate work.
That completed, they moved to Buckhannon, West Virginia, where her husband taught at West Virginia Wesleyan College for 25 years, and Bunny taught social studies at the local high school for 20 years. Upon retirement, Bunny and Joe enjoyed traveling the world for the next 10 years. Bunny liked to garden and sew. She helped to found West Virginia Professional Educators, a statewide organization which advocates for teachers.
Several years after the death of her husband, Bunny spent her final years in the Albany, N.Y., area, near her two daughters. She spent 10 very happy years at Shaker Pointe Independent Living Community. At Shaker Pointe, she was active in many committees, as well as starting a weekly study group on philosophy and religion.
She is survived by three children, Peggy, Carolyn, and Andrew Mow; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
