Election Update: The latest local candidate filings as of January 14

The candidate filing period for the May 12, 2026, Primary Election is currently underway in West Virginia. As of Wednesday afternoon, January 14, here are the filings for the Upshur County and City of Buckhannon offices up for election:

Upshur County Commissioner

  • Doug Bush (Republican)
  • Patrick Lane (Republican)

Upshur County Board of Education (Non-Partisan – 3 seats)

  • Jan Craig (District 1)
  • Roy Wager (District 1)

Buckhannon City Recorder (Non-Partisan)

  • Randy Sanders

Buckhannon City Council (Non-Partisan – 2 Seats)

  • No filings to date

Conservation District Supervisor (Non-Partisan)

  • Donnie Tenney

West Virginia State Senate (11th District)

  • Bill Hamilton (Republican)

West Virginia House of Delegates (64th District)

  • Adam Burkhammer (Republican)

West Virginia House of Delegates (65th District)

West Virginia House of Delegates (68th District)

  • David Critchfield (Republican)

City candidates may apply to run for any of the available municipal positions from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Buckhannon City Hall, 70 E. Main Street, Monday through Friday. County candidates may file from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Upshur County Courthouse, 40 W. Main Street, in the County Clerk’s Office, Monday through Friday.

The cutoff for filing is January 31, 2026, a Saturday.
