Elaine Jo Boyce, age 86, went home to join the Lord and her loved ones who have gone before her on Thursday, April 6, 2023, under the loving care of her St. Joseph’s Nursing Care Facility family. 

She was born on May 1, 1936, in Braxton County and grew up in the community of Newville surrounded by a large family.  During her almost 87 years, she always considered Newville her “home place.” 

Elaine married Delbert Boyce on October 15, 1964, and they were married 54 years before his passing in 2019.  She was also preceded in death by a son, Delbert “Lee” Boyce, Jr.; her mother Lucille Hyre, and her stepfather Fred “Ted” Hyre. 

She is survived by her daughters:  Stephanie Ocheltree and Suzanne Ocheltree and partner Steve Holmes; granddaughter Shanon Wamsley and husband Ryan and great granddaughter Whitaker Lee of Morgantown; two brothers:  Fred Hyre and wife Evelyn of Kingsport, TN and Philip “Butch” Hyre and wife Bonnie of French Creek; two nieces:  Kelli Thomas and husband Jim and their children Garrett and Savannah, and Heather Hyre, all of Kingsport, TN; two nephews:  Jeff Hyre and wife Kellie Woody-Hyre of Buckhannon and their children Dalton, Mason, and Briston, and Jason Hyre and wife Annette of Rock Cave and their son Luke.

The family will honor Elaine’s wishes for cremation and private burial at the Newville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Upshur County Parish House, 68 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201; the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601; or a charity of your choice.
