TENNERTON – Makenize Egress tallied 19 points, but it wasn’t quite enough to lead the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Lady Bucs to their first victory of the season in a 33-26 setback to the Robert C. Byrd Eagles Saturday afternoon.
The game was stopped with 2:34 left on the clock in the fourth quarter. The Lady Bucs are down to six players on the roster, and with one player already fouled out of the game, a second B-U player fouled out on the same play an injury occurred to a Lady Buc player leaving them with just three able bodies to play so the game was halted with 2:34 remaining.
B-U took a 6-4 lead after one quarter with Egress, Kylie Hull and Taylor Feather each scoring a basket.
Egress put in five points and Kylie Hull one in the second quarter for the Lady Bucs that went to Robert C. Byrd by a 16-6 margin.
That left the Lady Bucs down by a 20-12 margin at the intermission.
Egress had all seven B-U points in the third quarter that went to the Eagles by a 12-7 count leaving the Lady Bucs trailing by a 32-19 score.
The Lady Bucs were rallying in the final quarter before the game was halted, winning it by a 7-1 score with Egress soring five points and Feather two.
Jada Sutherlin led Robert C. Byrd with 14 points.
The loss dropped B-U to 0-9 on the season.
They will be back in action again Tuesday hosting Philip Barbour at 5:45 p.m.
