Dr. John Redding named WVU Health System vice president of population health

John Redding, M.D., M.B.A.

John S. Redding, M.D., M.B.A., has been named the new vice president of population health for the WVU Health System. His first day was September 30.

Dr. Redding came to WVU Medicine from CommonSpirit Health and CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he served as vice president of clinical integration, executive director of the Mission Health Care Network, and executive director of Memorial Health Services.

CommonSpirit is the country’s largest Catholic healthcare system and second-largest nonprofit hospital chain, operating more than 142 hospitals and 1,000 care sites in 21 states. While there, Redding had numerous responsibilities, including serving as the “Value Hub” leader for CommonSpirit Health’s Tennessee/Georgia market, providing leadership and oversight for all CHI Memorial value-based endeavors, and collaborating with regional and national Payer Strategies representatives to identify, assess, and optimize performance in “Value Hub” opportunities.

Prior to that, as part of Trinity Health, Redding served as president of the Saint Alphonsus Health Alliance in Boise, Idaho. Earlier in his career, he functioned as a senior manager and a practice leader for both ECG Management Consultants’ managed care systems practice in Chicago and Blue &Co., LLC’s clinical integration and accountable care practice in Indianapolis.

Redding received his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and completed his Master of Business Administration at Emory’s Goizueta Business School.

He assumes the role from Kevin Halbritter, M.D., who will transition to a part-time role with population health, continue his Internal Medicine clinic, and take on a clinical informatics role in the Department of Medicine at the WVU School of Medicine.
