Dorse E. Gillum

Dorse E. Gillum, 94, of Buckhannon, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at Serenity Care Home. He was born on November 13, 1926, in Monongah, W.Va. a son of the late Dee Stewart and Edna Hyre Gillum.

He was united in marriage on July 30, 1948, to Etta Darleen Cunningham Gillum, who preceded him in death on May 1, 2019. In addition to his parents and his wife he was also preceded in death by one daughter Debra Carrico; two brothers: Leonard and Odell Gillum, one sister Vera Sayre, one sister-in-law Linda Gillum.

He is survived by one son Dorse E. Gillum, Jr. and wife Deanna of Buckhannon, one son-in-law, Joe Carrico of Buckhannon; five grandchildren: Andrea, Dorian, and Tasha Carrico, Leslea Gillum and Scott Gillum and wife Jennifer; two great grandchildren:  Stuart and Julia Gillum; three brothers: Robert Gillum of Buckhannon and Doyle Gillum and wife Patty of French Creek and Edward Gillum and wife Ruth of Buckhannon; one sister Helma Pringle of Ohio; one sister-in-law Elizabeth Gillum of Ohio and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Dorse was retired from Moore Business Forms with twenty-three years of service. He enjoyed beekeeping, gardening and was an avid turkey hunter.

He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received on Tuesday February 23, 2021 at the Buckhannon Christian and Missionary Alliance Church from noon to 1 p.m. the funeral hour with Pastor Jeff Norris and Pastor Mike Hinkle officiating. Interment will follow in the Hampton Cemetery where the Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
