FAIRMONT – West Virginia Wesleyan men’s basketball lost on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a 104–54 decision to a surging Fairmont State University squad inside Joe Retton Arena.
Fairmont State (6–1, 3–0 MEC) applied heavy pressure from the opening tip and used a 19–2 stretch early in the first half to seize control. The Falcons shot 54% in the opening period and converted 16 first-half free throws on their way to a 57–20 halftime advantage.
Wesleyan (0–6, 0–2 MEC) responded with a stronger second half, scoring 34 points on 44% shooting after the break, including five three-pointers.
A trio of Bobcats reached double figures, led by Lethaniel Foster Jr., who provided a spark off the bench with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Adrijus Janciauskas contributed 10 points, hitting all four of his field-goal attempts in the first half and adding a pair of threes.
Nick Davis added nine points and two rebounds, finding success at the rim and finishing 4-of-9 from the floor.
Wesleyan’s bench produced 35 of the team’s 54 points.
Wesleyan battled on the glass, pulling down 33 total rebounds, including nine from Stephen Ovia, who led all Bobcats in boards.
Despite that effort, Fairmont State capitalized on second-chance opportunities—finishing with 20 second-chance points—and turned Wesleyan’s 22 turnovers into 37 points, a key factor in the contest.
The Falcons placed five players in double figures, led by Drey Carter’s 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting. FSU shot 50.7% from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers, including 10 in the second half as they maintained control.
Fairmont also pushed the tempo, outscoring Wesleyan 26–6 in fast-break points.
Wesleyan continues on the road against University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Monday, Dec. 8 for a noon tipoff.
