DHHR moves to once-daily reporting, adds 93 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Saturday morning that 93 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 1, 2020, there have been 287,084 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 6,735 total cases and 116 deaths,” according to a press release.

The DHHR also announced they will no longer provide a daily 5 p.m. update to state residents.

“On July 24, 2020, Gov. Jim Justice announced that DHHR, the agency in charge of reporting the number of COVID-19 cases, will transition from providing twice-daily updates to one report every 24 hours,” the press release states. “This is effective August 1, 2020. The next report will be posted at 10 a.m., August 2, 2020.”

Beginning Sunday, My Buckhannon will transition to a morning update as well.

New cases were reported Saturday in Berkeley, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Tucker, Wood and Wyoming counties.

Total active cases and hospitalizations remain at all-time high levels, according to the DHHR.

About 1,761 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 4,858 people have recovered and 116 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.83%.
