Defensive miscues cost softball Lady Bucs in losses to Philip Barbour and Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc softball team had a tough start to the week with a pair of road losses to Philip Barbour and Bridgeport as they saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.

On Monday, they were their own worst enemy making 10 errors in an 11-3 setback to Philip Barbour then on Tuesday, they lost a 10-2 decision to Bridgeport in a game where they made seven errors.

Against Philip Barbour, the Lady Bucs were down 2-0 in the top of the second when Reagan Mason singled and later scored on an error to make it a 2-1 contest.

Philip Barbour scored three in the top of the fourth extending their lead to 5-1.

B-U made it a 5-3 game in the top of the fifth with a pair of runs when Reese Curry scored on an error and Sophie Lantz singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Kailey Hart.

The Colts ended the game with a six-run sixth inning.

The Lady Bucs collected five hits in the loss with Mason leading the way with two.

Jansen Kimble suffered the loss in the circle going five innings and allowing six earned runs on nine hits while striking out seven.

In their outing with Bridgeport, the Lady Bucs were down 2-0 in the top of the third before Sophie Lantz singled to center and raced home on a double by Kimble making it a 2-1 game.

Bridgeport scored twice in the bottom of the third for a 4-1 lead.

B-U scored their final run in the top of the fourth when Alyssa Abel singled and later scored on a Bridgeport error. The Indians scored one in the bottom of the fourth and ended the game with a five-run outburst in the bottom of the fifth.

B-U managed four hits in the contest with Kimble, Abel, Taylor Spratt and Lantz each getting one.

Hart suffered the loss for B-U going 4 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run on five hits.

The two losses dropped the Lady Bucs to 6-3 on the season. They will be back in action Thursday hosting Lewis County at 5 p.m.
