COVID-19 deaths continue to mount in Upshur, Randolph counties

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 16,743 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 371 since the last report.

Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (309), Barbour (283), Lewis (151), Randolph (304) and Webster (50) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of one active case in the last 24 hours.

Ten additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 64-year old female from Upshur County, a 65-year old male from Randolph County, a 78-year old male from Fayette County, a 94-year old male from Putnam County, an 87-year old male from Preston County, a 66-year old male from Berkeley County, an 80-year old female from Logan County, a 57-year old male from Logan County, a 67-year old male from Logan County, and an 84-year old male from Pocahontas County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 31, 2021, there have been 3,393,226 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 189,690 total cases and 3,084 deaths,” according to a press release.

The daily percent positive was 13.28%.

A total of 912,048 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 51% of the state.
