Governor Patrick Morrisey highlighted recent national recognition for New River Gorge, Lewisburg and West Virginia tourism as the state reported record visitor impact.

Former Delegate David Elliott Pritt has withdrawn from West Virginia’s Nov. 3 general election ballot. Under state law, the Republican Party cannot name a replacement, and an eligibility challenge involving Pritt is now moot.

WVDOT mourns Kathryn “Kathy” Smith, whose leadership helped transform abandoned rail lines into treasured West Virginia attractions. Her work with DGVR brought more than a million excursion passengers to the state and left a lasting legacy in rail tourism.

The Upshur County Emergency Communications Center is exploring a change of service providers to improve next-generation compliance. The county commission voted to proceed with the process of transitioning to the new service.

FEMA staff will soon visit Upshur County to help July flood victims apply for federal aid. Assistance may include housing grants, home repairs and loans, with details on timing and locations still pending.

West Virginia’s new 5-minute digital Home Safety Survey helps homeowners and renters identify fire hazards and receive immediate safety guidance. Responses will also help officials and local fire departments address community fire risks.
