Charles Wilson “Chuck” Canfield, born September 5, 1952, in Buckhannon, West Virginia, to LeRoy and Valta Canfield, passed peacefully at home in Leesburg, Florida, on April 5, 2025.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Carla; daughter Shauna Ushko and husband James; son C.W. Canfield and wife Sarah; doting grandchildren Ashley Benyovszky and husband Paul; grandsons Michael Ushko, Charles “Wilson” Canfield III, Austin Canfield, and Harry Canfield; and great-granddaughter Madi Benyovszky. Chuck is also survived by brothers Ed and Tom, brother-in-law Mike Cutright, and many loving extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Joe, and sister, Cay. Chuck never met a stranger nor lacked for a joke. His infectious smile and laughter will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Chuck attended Buckhannon-Upshur High School and Glenville State University, going on to have a successful career in oil and gas consultation. He married his high school sweetheart, Carla, in 1970, and they settled in French Creek, West Virginia, to raise their children near their extended families. Chuck was at the center of every gathering, story, and prank. He enjoyed four-wheeling trips with his buddies but absolutely delighted in time with his children and grandchildren, who all knew him as Papa.
The family will receive guests on Monday, April 14, at 9:00 a.m. at Beyers Funeral Home, 1123 West Main Street, Leesburg, FL 34748. A celebration of life service will follow at 10:00 a.m.
A celebration of life will be held in Buckhannon, WV, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the Buckhannon County Club from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Chuck may be made to First Baptist Church, Leesburg, 220 N 13th St., Leesburg, FL 34748.
