Causbie “Jean” Tenney

On Thursday, November 6, 2025, Causbie “Jean” Tenney, age 91, surrounded by her family and beloved dog Lucy, went home to be with her savior the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jean was born on March 21, 1934, in Cubana, WV, to the late Charles Houston Hoover and Eva F. Kelley Hoover.  On September 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Emery Tenney, who preceded her in death on October 21, 2009.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her surviving children, Rosalie Tenney and husband Carroll Holt, Roger Lee Tenney and Shelia M. Adams and husband Stephen F. all of Buckhannon.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Angela D. Fenney and husband John of Clarksburg, WV; Pamela R. George and husband Matt of TX; Dustin Holt Tenney and companion Courtney Parker of Weston, WV, Michelle N. Zickefoose and husband Chad of Buckhannon; Dalton Hunter Tenney of Morgantown, WV; Joshua Josiah Reed of Reynoldsborg, OH; Stephanie Lane and husband C. J. of Buckhannon; Emily E. Adams-Shirley and husband Walker of Elkins, WV; and Matthew S. Adams of Buckhannon.

Additionally surviving are eleven great-grandchildren, John  Harvey Fenney III,  Kaylei Fenney and Jacob Fenney of Clarksburg, Alyssa and Gavin George of Texas, Haiden Tenney, Jase Tenney, and Truett Tenney of Weston, Landen and Kanen Zickefoose of Buckhannon, and Haley Lane of Buckhannon.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one great great-great-granddaughter Lillian Rose Fenney, one daughter-in-law Bonnie M. Tenney, and three brothers and their spouses:  Mason J. (Annabell), Troy (Della) and Ralph (Winnie Jean) Hoover.

Jean was an employee at Delco Radio Factory in Kokomo Indiana prior to returning to West Virginia and becoming a homemaker.  Widely known for her warmth, generosity and loving spirit she brought to the world. Even in the midst of challenges life brought her way she never wavered in her compassion for others, always caring for her loved ones more than she did herself. She was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, bird watching, canning, cooking, fishing and hunting. Before arthritis took its toll, she had a natural gift for playing the guitar and piano. She enjoyed music and attending church.  Her nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends always knew they would receive a warm hot meal at “Aunt Jean’s” prepared with much love and given with warm hospitality.

Friends will be received Friday, November 14, 2025, from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Holly J. Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton, WV.

Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
