David Grant Gould

It is with a blend of sorrow and gratitude that we announce the passing of David Grant Gould, who peacefully departed from us on Sunday, November 9, 2025, just a few months shy of his 81st birthday. Born on February 16, 1945, in Tennerton, David lived an extraordinary life defined by devotion, passion, and the ceaseless pursuit of knowledge. As the great American writer Mark Twain once said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” David took this to heart, living a life that was as varied as it was fulfilling.

David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was married on November 23, 1968, and together with his beloved wife, Betty Lee Norman Gould, they raised a beautiful family. His dedication extended to his professional life as well, being an Army Veteran, helping build Ralph’s Furniture, working for Saga Food at WV Wesleyan College, and working diligently as a Finisher at Corhart-Sefpro. In his leisure time, David’s captivating interests ranged from being an avid gun, toy, and binocular collector to enjoying word searches and crossword puzzles. His collection of Matchbox cars and Johnny Lightning toys was a sight to behold, revealing a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A keen reader, he found solace and wisdom in the pages of the Bible.

David was an active member of his community, contributing his time and energy to the Point Pleasant Chapel in Abbott where he was a Sunday School Teacher and the Assembly of God in Buckhannon. His dedication, work ethic, and moral integrity earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

David leaves behind his treasured children: Alicia Sue Kerns and husband, Will, and Darrell Gould all of Buckhannon, and Beverly Whitlatch and husband, Jason, of Moundsville. His memory will live on in the hearts of his cherished grandchildren: Jeremiah David Gould, Brittney Michelle, Rodney Allen, and Kenneth Whitlatch. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gurvis Grant Gould and Lyndall Margurite Simmons Gould; sisters: Charlene Imogene Linger, Isabelle Lemley, and Louise Maxine Morris; and daughter, Amanda Kay Gould.

Friends and family will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon, from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Clutter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Will Kerns and Wilma Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Upshur County Memorial Park in Tennerton. Full Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Upshur County Honor Guard.

We, at Clutter Funeral and Cremation are honored and privileged to serve the family of David Grant Gould. Online condolences may be expressed at www.ClutterFuneralHome.com.
