Catherine Light, age 98, of Buckhannon, WV, died Sunday, July 14, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.
She was born March 26, 1926, in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Elva Black and Ivy Koon Black Shipman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sterlie William Light; one son, Willard Light and wife Mary Kay Light and three brothers, Owen, Arkie and Homer Black.
She is survived by two sons, Melvin Light and wife Sheila of Buckhannon and Jerry Light and wife Robin of Weston, WV; one daughter, Letha Light of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Ramon Light and wife Annette and Willie Light and wife Judy all of Buckhannon and Jeffrey Light and wife Amanda of Weston; two granddaughters, Teresa Ball and husband Andy of Taylor County, WV and Shelly Feronti and husband Mike of Buckhannon; three great-granddaughters, Amy, Beth and Susie Light; four great-grandsons, Patrick Light and wife Rushia, Jerod Wood and fiancé Claire Simmons, Jacob Dodd and Zachery Ball; several great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Johnnie Black and wife Judi and Russell Black all of Buckhannon and Ralph Black of Valley Bend, WV; two sisters, Leona Dean and Carolyn Smith both of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews and her friend of over 65 years Elouise Tenney of Buckhannon. Mrs. Light was a homemaker.
She was a 50-year member of Heavner Grove C.E.O.’s and received her pin from the club. She was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and Mt. Rupert United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Catherine will lie-in-state from 12 PM (noon) to 1 PM, the funeral hour, on Monday July 22, at the Fairview United Methodist Church in Ellamore, WV with the Rev. Gary Phillips and the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Church Cemetery in Ellamore.
