Carpenter Crunch Time Week 6; Be better as B-U fans

BUCKHANNON – Let’s get something out of the way right now, complaining about the Buckhannon-Upshur football team on social media isn’t doing anybody any good so just stop. These are kids playing a game. I doubt they are happy with the results either. But adults bashing them on social media is unacceptable. Do better.

That said, I am still trying to figure out how I feel about Morgantown’s actions in last week’s game. While no team wants to see the score run up on them, having the junior varsity kids take knees in the red zone so they won’t score could be considered a bit embarrassing.  I think for now I will appreciate Morgantown’s gesture of not running up the score as we saw a team do that to B-U two weeks ago.

Now onto the important stuff…the My Buckhannon standings, which look like this.

Name   Week   Overall
Brian      6-1       29-6
Duane   5-2        28-7
Katie      4-3       20-15
Monica 5-2       19-16

I was the only person to miss the Oklahoma State-Kansas State game which gave Brian the weekly win with a 6-1 record while I went 5-2 along with Monica while Katie went 4-3. Brian retook the overall lead with a 29-6 record while I am in second with a 28-7 mark. Katie is in third at 20-15 while Monica is in fourth at 19-16.

Last week, we had two readers go a perfect 7-0 –- Rob Kimble and Roberta Hatcher, but it was Rob who won the Oklahoma State-Kansas State tiebreaker score. The game was 42-20 (62 points) with Rob picking 51 while Roberta picked 35. Congrats to Rob for winning our $20 gift certificate.

One note on this week. WVU was incorrectly listed as playing Iowa State so that game will be thrown out. We apologize for the incorrect listing.

Now onto our games this week.

Fairmont Senior (5-0) at Buckhannon-Upshur (0-5)

It is easy math on this one. Fairmont Senior beat University 49-7 and University beat B-U 49-0. The Bucs could be in for a long night against the Class AAA No. 1 ranked Polar Bears.

Duane: Fairmont Senior; Brian: Fairmont Senior; Katie: Fairmont Senior; Monica: Fairmont Senior

Morgantown (4-1) at Wheeling Park (3-2)

The true pick ‘em game we have this week at the high school level. Everyone in Class AAAA will make the playoffs (how absurd is that), but with Wheeling Park currently fourth and Morgantown sitting fifth, this game could go a long way in potentially securing a first-round home playoff game for the winner in a few weeks.

Duane: Wheeling Park; Brian: Wheeling Park; Katie: Wheeling Park; Monica: Morgantown

West Virginia (2-2) at Oklahoma State (3-2)

A winnable game for sure, but I have a feeling that Neal’s seat gets a little warmer after a road loss to the Cowboys.

Duane: Oklahoma State; Brian: Oklahoma State; Katie: West Virginia: Monica: Oklahoma State

The Final Four:

Elkins (4-1) at Grafton (1-4)

Duane: Elkins; Brian: Elkins; Katie: Elkins; Monica: Elkins

Brooke (1-4) at Bridgeport (5-0)

Duane: Bridgeport; Brian: Bridgeport; Katie: Bridgeport; Monica: Bridgeport

West Virginia Wesleyan (0-4) at Frostburg State (4-0)

Duane: Frostburg State; Brian: Frostburg State; Katie: Frostburg State; Monica: Frostburg State

Appalachian State (2-2) at Marshall (2-2)

Duane: Marshall; Brian: Appalachian State: Katie: Marshall; Monica: Marshall
