Carol Jackson Cogar

Carol Jackson Cogar, age 92 of Buckhannon, died Monday, December 9, 2024, at Genesis Healthcare Rosewood Center in Grafton, WV. He was born on July 10, 1932, in Clarksburg, WV, a son of the late Carl F. and Izetta (Peg) Cogar. On January 12, 1956, he married Peggy Shifflet who preceded him in death on March 31, 1995. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother Carl Cogar Jr.

He is survived by his three sons, Allen and Sherry Cogar of Rocky Mount, VA, Mark and Shelia Cogar and Timothy and Brenda of Buckhannon, and two daughters, Linda and Jim Mason of Fairmont and Debra Osborne of Statesville, NC. Seven grandchildren, Jennifer Chambers, Zachary Cogar, Ashley Merrifield, Leandra Hobson, Bethanie Cogar, Emily Holman and Baileyann Osborne. Eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cogar served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. He worked several years for Weston Laundry and Cleaners of Weston. He was known as the man with bubble gum. Each of his stops with kids was greeted with handfuls of Double Bubble Gum. He made many friends as he drove a school bus for Upshur County Schools. He loved sports, especially the game of basketball. He spent many years coaching summer and winter teams and refereeing the game he loved. He touched the lives of many young men through the years. Carol will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

PS, our father had many friends he nicknamed along the way. Some of his favorite names were “Sweet Lips” and “Hot Lips.” Special friends along the journey of life were Glen and Vonda Hamner, special caregiver Ginger Cutright, D. Farnsworth and too many nurses to list from the VA and Rosewood Center.

Friends will be received Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Friday at the funeral home with Pastor J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in Buckhannon Memorial Park. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors at the gravesite.
