Carol Ann Davidson Gooding

Carol Ann Davidson Gooding, age 84, of Rock Cave, the Gaines Community, went home to rest with the Lord on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the WV Hospice Facility in Elkins after a long-fought battle for her health. She was born in Upshur County on January 5, 1941, a daughter of the late Elmer and Beulah Hall Haymond. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Basil Brooks Davidson, and her second husband, Charles Ray Gooding, Jr.

She is survived by two daughters: Vickie Lynn Davidson Foley and husband Roy and Tamara Sue Davidson Shorter and husband Jeffrey of Gaines, WV; two grandchildren: Sidney and Katlyn Shorter; two sisters: Linda Sprauer of Yuma, AZ, and Donis Martin of Buckhannon, WV; sisters-in-law: Evelyn Haymond of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Maxine Haymond of Century, WV, and Joyce McCartney of Crawford, WV.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Lynn Haymond, and four sisters: Helen Louise Haymond, Doris Wilson, Vesta Williamson, and Esta LaBeck.

Carol was a 1959 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School. Among the most important things to Carol was always her relationship with and devotion to God. Participating in Church Choir and singing with “The Freedom Singers” brought her a tremendous amount of peace and enjoyment throughout her life. Carol was a member of the Salem Ridge Church at Gaines and attended the Independent Word of Life Church, headed by a lifelong friend, Pastor Guy Ware. In her spare time, Carol enjoyed gardening and bird watching and was adamant about keeping her bird feeders full for her winged companions. She will be dearly missed by family, her birds, as well as her two cats: Thomas and Puff and grand dogs: Bella and Azaleah.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM, the funeral hour with Pastor Guy Ware officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Ridge Cemetery.

Online condolences may be extended to the Gooding family at www.heavnerandcutright.com. The Gooding family has entrusted the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services with funeral arrangements.
