Cara Sue Sommerville

Cara Sue Sommerville, age 87, of Smith Avenue, Buckhannon, died Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon. She was born on May 13, 1937, in Linn, WV, a daughter of the late Harry Carl and Marvell Virginia Bailey Alfred. On May 2, 1959, she was united in marriage to Wayne Carroll Sommerville who preceded her in death on May 18, 2020. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son David Wayne Sommerville.

She is survived by two daughters: Connie and husband Bill Painter and Donna and husband Rick Smith, both of Buckhannon; daughter-in-law Brenda Sommerville Schall of Elderton, PA; six grandchildren: William “BJ” Painter and wife Kayla of Morgantown, Chris Sommerville and wife Heather of Springfield, NE, Deidre Nicole Painter Holcomb of Clarksburg, Londes “Buck” Davis and wife Lori of Bristol, TN, Angela Sommerville Miller and husband Jeremy of Elderton, PA, and Chad Smith and wife Erin of Buckhannon; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ronnie Alfred and wife Vicky of Pearisburg, VA and Gary Alfred and wife Kathryn of Belmont, WV; sister-in-law Louise Sommerville of Warriors Mark, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sommerville was a member of the First Baptist Church of Buckhannon where she served as church secretary for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping, and spending time with her family.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 12:00-3:00 PM at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel where the funeral will begin at 3:00 PM with Pastor Jay Teodoro officiating. Interment will follow in the Upshur County Memorial Park.
