Bull Run fire results in total loss

BUCKHANNON – The Adrian Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Bull Run Road Sunday that resulted in a total loss.

However, no one was home at the time of the fire. Bull Run Road is located off the Stone Coal Road.

Adrian Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Rutherford said Monday firefighters received the call at 1:22 p.m. and when they arrived on the scene, the house was already fully engulfed.

“The homeowner wasn’t home at the time,” Rutherford said. “It was a total loss, the house and the two outbuildings. It was pretty secluded down there, so it took us a while to get to it.”

Rutherford said they still do not know what caused the fire. In addition to the Adrian VFD, the Buckhannon and Banks District Volunteer Fire Departments responded, as well as Upshur County EMS, the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department and the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police.

The fire was not suspicious.
