Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School students become newest Knights of the Golden Horseshoe

Buckhannon, WV – A long-standing tradition in West Virginia education continued this week as four 8th-grade students from Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School were named the newest Knights of the Golden Horseshoe. The school would like to extend its congratulations to Johnny Chen, Landon Beaudry, Xavier Robinette, and Zethyn Wiseman for their achievements.

The Golden Horseshoe test, administered annually since 1931, is a comprehensive exam designed to assess the knowledge of West Virginia’s 8th-grade students on the state’s history, geography, and culture. The test is a rite of passage for many students, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey.

Each year, top-scoring students from every county are awarded the prestigious Golden Horseshoe and are inducted as “Knights” of the order. This honor not only recognizes their academic excellence but also highlights their dedication and passion for learning about the state they call home.
