Buckhannon-Upshur FFA shines at regional Leadership Development Events

Buckhannon-Upshur High School FFA students earned top placements at the Regional FFA Leadership Development Events, with Miah McCue and Haley Krum taking first in their categories and others demonstrating strong leadership skills.

The Buckhannon-Upshur High School FFA Chapter earned high honors at the Regional FFA Leadership Development Events (LDEs), with four students proudly representing their school and chapter.

Miah McCue took 1st place in the Employment Skills LDE, showcasing her professionalism and communication abilities in a mock job interview process. Haley Krum earned 1st place in the Upperclassmen Creed Speaking LDE, impressing judges with her confident and heartfelt delivery of the FFA Creed.

Emily Burr places 3rd in the Prepared Public Speaking LDE, presenting a well-researched and passionate speech on a relevant agriculture issue. Emily Bacorn also represented the chapter in the highly competitive Extemporaneous Speaking LDE, where she delivered an impromptu speech on an agriculture-related topic.

Each student demonstrated dedication, preparation, and leadership–key qualities of the FFA mission.

Miah McCue shared her gratitude: “Winning first place was such a meaningful moment for me. Preparing for the Employment Skills LDE taught me a lot about professionalism and confidence. I’m proud to represent our chapter at our state convention.”

Haley Krum reflected on her win: “I’m so honored to have the opportunity to present the FFA Creed. It’s something I believe in and sharing that message with others has helped me grow as a speaker and leader.”

Emily Burr expressed pride in her placement: “Prepared Public Speaking challenged me to think critically and express my passion for agriculture. Placing third was special, and I’m grateful.”

Emily Bacorn spoke about her participation: “Extemporaneous speaking really pushes you to think on your feet. It was a great learning experience, and I’m proud to have represented Upshur County FFA Chapter.”

FFA Advisor Mrs. Allyson Lewis praised the group: “These students have worked hard and represented our chapter with pride and professionalism. Their accomplishments reflect not only their individual dedication but the strength of our entire FFA chapter.”

Best of luck to Miah McCue and Haley Krum as they head to the West Virginia FFA State Convention this July.
