On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2 p.m., at the Buckhannon Police Department, the city will celebrate the 8th annual Webb Grubb Police Officer Recognition Day by posthumously honoring former Buckhannon Police Chief and Upshur County Sheriff Virgil Miller.
Miller served as the Chief of Police for the Buckhannon Police Department from 2001 to 2004. Among his many other contributions to law enforcement, he served five terms as the Sheriff of Upshur County (1989 – 1996, first and second terms; 2005 – 2012, third and fourth terms; 2021 – “End Of Watch in 2023,” fifth term.)
The city invites Chief Miller’s family members, admirers, and those of Officer Grubb, as well as active and former serving police officers, to pay tribute and honor his commitment by joining us for this ceremony.
At that time, the city will also add Chief Miller to its “Wall of Blue,” which already honors Officer Grubb, Lieutenant Rowan, Chief Gaudet, Lieutenant Bennett, Sheriff Coffman, Buddy Ray Zickefoose and Chief Mearns.
