Buckhannon police arrest intoxicated man shooting gun near trailer court Friday night

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — An intoxicated man shooting a gun outside his trailer in Upshur County Friday night has been arrested, according to a press release from the Buckhannon Police Department.

“On March 15, 2024, at approximately 10:36 p.m., Buckhannon City Police officers responded to a shooting complaint in Zickefoose Trailer Court,” the release states. “Upon arrival, witnesses stated they heard multiple gunshots in the area.”

Police located the suspect, but do not currently believe he was shooting “at anyone in particular.”

“A subsequent investigation by the officers determined that Eli Jacob Beckner, while in an intoxicated condition, fired multiple .45 caliber rounds outside and behind his trailer located within Zickefoose Trailer Court,” according to the release. “At this point of the investigation, there is no indication that Mr. Beckner was shooting at anyone in particular.”

Beckner was arrested and was held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail as of Saturday morning.

“No injuries were reported, and Mr. Beckner was taken into custody without incident,” the release states. “He is being charged with wanton endangerment.”
